The annual food fayre event will be hosted in Andover High Street on Sunday 21st September from 10.00am – 2.00pm. This compliments the regular monthly Hampshire Farmers’ Markets event and aims to engage with shoppers to purchase local produce and this year will give the opportunity to sample a range of international foods.
This years’ event aims to engage with schools during the Year of Food and Farming. A number of schools have already committed to participating by preparing a menu for a 2 course meal (either starter and main or main and dessert).
The winning menu will then be prepared at the event on 21st September by Andy McKenzie from Lainston House and Chef of the Year for Hampshire Farmers’ Markets. The winner will receive the Food Fayre Award sponsored by The Chantry Centre.
From an educational perspective this competition will engage with school children to consider:
The event on the 21st September will also include cookery demonstrations, good use of leftovers, local allotments showcasing their produce, Portway and Icknield Schools presenting their work, The Andover Family Learning Project sponsored by Waitrose and Environment and Health educating the public on waste management. In addition music, storytelling and Kidsrome farm animals will provide additional entertainment and interest.
This year there are also plans to introduce stalls with a flavour of international foods as well as local crafts.
