When East meets West and when two cultures fuse - we begin to
witness the magic and wonder of a shared ancient language, built
upon a human rhythm to explore, make and create together.

East Meets West
The Lights is embarking on an exciting journey to thread
together art forms and styles drawn from dance forms from the
genres of Indian Bollywood, Odissi and Contemporary Dance; linked
intrinsically to African drumming rhythms, English folk music and
the fine art of English Longsword dance!
The project will explore these genres and fuse them to devise
contemporary expression through practical workshops offered to
local secondary schools and Andover College.
On the mornings of the 23, 24 and 25 June the "East Meets West"
team will be inviting schools to The Lights to create work to
showcase, this together with specialist performances from the
artists and students alike; culminating with project highlights
performed at the event on Sunday 6 July in Vigo Park, Andover.

The project benefits from input from Kala Arts (specialists in
Odissi Indian dance styles) input from Cathy Seago's modern
contemporary piece entitled "Vanishing Point", as well as dedicated
musical direction from "Creative Traditional Arts"
professionals. "Drumrunners" complete the mix
with the backdrop for sound and rhythm.
